Fighting the Winter Blues

Normally you may have already felt some winter blues by now. Thankfully our amazing fall, early winter has been anything but winter like and I've seen many out doing activities that resemble more summer time than winter time. But eventually winter will be inevitable. Then what should we do?

LEARN SOMETHING NEW. This can occupy our minds in a very positive manner, and can

give our sometimes cold, dark mundane weeks a larger feeling of purpose.

My Example: One of my goals is to learn Spanish before our Spain Cycling Camp in April 2024. As a result I am committed to a class once a week and hopefully to a few hours of homework each week.

PICK UP A NEW ACTIVITY, a great one for around here, eventually anyway, would be cross country skiing. Edmonton has some amazing venues for the cross country skier. When doing something like this I always recommend spending a few dollars on a lesson. It provides a better start to your activity and allows you to meet other beginners which will help with your accountability to getting out and practicing.

My example: I am not brand new to cross country skiing, but it has been so long that I'm counting it as a new activity goal.

An easy go to for motivation is to PICK A GOAL FOR THE SPRING. It can be a race, a sporting event, or a commitment with others for an amazing adventure somewhere. It always helps if the goal does require a certain amount of preparation in order to provide you focus, and motivation through the winter.

My Example: I'd like to try my first BWR event in Victoria in May 2024, but maybe more importantly I need to be cycling ready and organized for our Spain Cycling Camp in April and our Gravel Cycling Camp in Penticton in late spring.
